General Fee Information
We will provide details of the consultation fee up-front with your appointment letter. Please note there will be an out-of-pocket cost for the consultation, and health funds do not provide benefits for specialist consultation fees.
If you require a procedure during the consultation, such as a hearing test or ear cleaning, additional fees will apply, however these are fully refundable by Medicare.
Initial Consultation
To claim the Medicare benefit for your consultation fee, you will require a doctor’s referral. Referrals from your General Practitioner are valid for 12 months, and for three months from a medical specialist. A longer appointment is required for this initial consultation, which is why a higher fee is charged than for subsequent visits. If you are an overseas patient, or if you do not wish to claim a consultation rebate from Medicare, a doctor’s referral is not required.
Further Consultations
You may need to return for further consultations after your initial appointment. These are usually shorter appointments, and may be to discuss test results, for further investigation, and for ongoing monitoring of your condition.
Post-Operative Consultation
The early routine post-operative care consultation is included in the surgical fee. This includes the in-hospital care.
Payment Methods
Payment of the total consultation and investigation fees is required after each consultation. You may pay by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card (a 0.03% surcharge applies for all MasterCard, Visa and AMEX transactions).
Once payment has finalised, we can send your Medicare claim directly to Medicare on your behalf, and you will receive your rebate benefit in your nominated bank account within 48 hours.
